Fire north of SDSU prompts evacuations, closes west I-8

A fire that ignited in a canyon adjacent to Interstate 8 north of San Diego State University prompted the evacuation of 80 homes in Del Cerro and charred 38 acres, a fire official said Sunday. Westbound lanes of I-8 were closed for several hours because of the blaze.
