As San Diegans headed to the polls early on election morning, there were no major issues reported, though some found themselves waiting longer than expected because of the size of the ballots. Polls will remain open until 8 p.m. today. Anyone in line by that time will be able to vote, according to Michael Vu, the San Diego County Registrar of Voters.
The midterm elections have been generating headlines for weeks as politicians at every level hunt for votes and pundits evaluate whether the policies put forward by President Donald Trump will be validated or rejected by a majority of voters. Interest in the 2018 midterms has been high locally and across the country, with voter registration surging to nearly 20 million in California alone. Turnout across San Diego County is expected to be as high as 70 percent, and more than 375,000 ballots already had been returned by Friday, county officials said.
